Find a veterinarian with Angie's List
Looking for a veterinarian and don't know how to find one you trust? Well, I just came across a new service that is really awesome and thought I would share it with you. Its called Angies List and in particular Austin Veterinarian...but we will get to that further down.
The advertiser does not pay to place the ads on this site so the reviews are honest because they come from actual people who have used the services. She also allows companies to respond to any complaints so you get the whole detailed story of what went wrong and can make your own judgement call as to whether or not you want to use them. There is also a live support call center to help you with any problems you may run into along the way.
Angies List has been featured by MSNBC, New York Times, Fox News, Today and U.S. News and World Report...so its pretty reputable for sure. There is a membership fee to join but there are various options to choose from as well. Considering what this list can save you in hassles and wasted money its truly a bargain, I think.
I know whenever I have had to look for something important like a veterinarian I always go with word of mouth. I ask people in whatever area I am looking for the service in who they go to...but that is so hit or miss. Because to be honest, being a vet asst. I am probably looking at different aspects than they are. What a Godsend this list would be if I were to move to an area...say Austin, TX. and had this list. I can just go to the site, type in Austin Veterinarian and there you have all the vets and their reviews right in front of you!
No more guess work or unpleasent surprises. There are somethings you just don't want to leave to chance and hope that the person knows what they are doing. Angie's List is the answer...go check it out.

Help when you need it
I'm sure you have noticed how crazy the world has become and its going to get worse. The U.S. credit rating has dropped, unemployment is skyrocketing, food is becoming more expensive and droughts and disasters will make it even more so. There really is nothing on this planet that we can depend on except for God and the certainty of more change.
When disasters do happen its good to be prepared and at least have a plan...know where to get help if its needed and who is the best in their field to rely upon. Which is why I am writing this post. Hopefully no one will need their services, but if you do they are the best at what they do. They are called the SteamTeam.
They can handle everything from residential fire damage to dehumidifying after a flood. Water damage, smoke damage, rug and carpet cleaning, drywall repair...you name it. They even have Green Services that are pet safe and friendly to the environment.
Like I said, I hope there is never a need to use them...but if there is at least you know they are there.

Backyard Chirper makes life easier
My friend and I are huge bird lovers and delight in feeding them to see what we can attract to our backyard. Recently we were discussing the cost of this activity as well as the work involved in carrying those 20 lb. bags of seed and all the little goodies for squirrels and such too. I have been going to PetSmart to get all my supplies till she shared her secret with me.
There is a wonderful site online that she told me about called Backyard Chirper and she sent me the link. I figured after viewing all that was offered I would share this with you guys. Besides a lot of really cool links and info regarding our feathered friends they have everything I could want for my little refuge.
They have a nice selection of bird feeders including something I have wanted to add for awhile now...a hummingbird feeder. I picked out a bird house I really liked and am considering adding another bird bath too. I am so happy I found this site because they specialize in this and seem to have really decent products. Now I don't have to haul those heavy bags home...they get delivered to my door.
So if you are a bird enthusiast you may also want to check them out...its going to make my life a lot easier that's for sure.

I knew I needed to deal with getting utilities set up at my new place, but I had too much else to think about the week of the big move. Once I got there though, I sure wished I had Internet access! Thankfully, Clear doesn't take long to get set up, so I was connected after only a couple of days.
The internet was so crucial because it was the only way I had to get in touch with my family since my phone had been lost, and I also had no idea how to get around my new part of town.
The next time I move I will definitely take a few hours beforehand to do my homework on utilities I'll need, because not having any water or Internet for even a couple of days was painful to say the least! These are the times I wish my mom lived with me to remind me of the important stuff!

People are always bringing different sites and products for pets to my attention and usually I am already aware of them or I find something wrong with them because I am picky about what I recommend. But today a site came to my attention that has so many pluses and benefits to it that I have to write about it. Its called pets.become.com
and while I cannot vouch for the total safety and quality of what they sell, it appears to be a very diversified and reasonably priced place for pet supplies.
Not only do they have the attributes above but they also have the plus of offering some very unique items as well, such as the end table crate at http://pets.become.com/pet-carriers, the pet cot at http://pets.become.com/pet-beds and toys for every kind of pet imaginable at http://pets.become.com/pet-toys.
Now, as I said, I cannot vouch for the safety or quality but if the quality is there then the prices are certainly right. Keep in mind too that products that come from China can be dangerous. They also have some metals that have lead in them which can kill a bird or make your dog very ill over time. So do your research before you purchase these types of items from anyone.
